Lambeth Music Service Believes:

- That it is the right of every child to have a basic level of music literacy

- That fundamental musical concepts can be taught and experienced through a wide variety of musical genres and cultures

Key Principles of LMS:
• All children in Lambeth must have access to a basic training to become musically literate
• Music education in Lambeth should embrace instrumental, curricular and extra-curricular activities in a cohesive way
• The same fundamental musical ideas and experiences can be gained through a wide variety of genres
• Pupils with particular talent must be supported to reach the highest levels

What We Do:

For Young Musicians:
• Ensembles, including wind, string, vocal, movement and ICT
• Music Centres, in the north, centre and south of the borough
• Holiday and weekend courses, for children at Lambeth schools

For Schools:
• Whole class instrumental and vocal provision, for all schools in the borough
• A subsidised instrumental and vocal tuition scheme, available to all schools in the borough
• The annual Lambeth Music Festival, for all schools in the borough
• Access to training opportunities, instruments, electronic equipment and music resources, for Lambeth tutors
• Continuing Professional Development and In Service Training for Lambeth teachers

We are also:
• Working with Children and Young People’s Service and community musicians to provide a variety of experiences
• Co-ordinating performance opportunities for school musicians
• Providing a structure of progressive ensembles and ensuring a balance of instrumentation and  equality of opportunity
• Providing In-service training and support for Class teachers and Music teachers
• Providing, resources, equipment, instruments and facilities for schools and music teachers
• Co-ordinating the efforts of schools across the phases, and tracking the progress of children in music.
• Offering inspection and examination services for Secondary school departments.

LMS contributes to the Lambeth Educational Achievement Plan that aims to:

• Raise achievement of all pupils
• Improve the quality of education for primary/secondary aged pupils
• Maintain and further improve the quality of teaching and learning
• Implement programmes for gifted and talented pupils
• Raise achievement of pupils with EAL and from ethnic minorities
• Roll out the extended schools and services programme
• Develop arts partnership to ensure strategic development of arts and arts providers
• Develop programmes to link national curriculum and instrumental work through specific KS1/2/3
  programmes increasing value for money and quality of teaching
