Our History:
The Lambeth Music Service was established in 2001 with a direct government Standards Fund grant.  LMS works with Lambeth Children and Young People’s Service, other education organisations, funding bodies, charities and business partners to extend the provision of music education in the borough and has links with the South Bank Centre, Orchestras, and Music and Arts groups.  LMS aims to work with these partners to help raise musical standards and increase access to music in Lambeth, and is developing a strategy for providing every child in Lambeth with access to music education, in line with the recent DfES proposals for instrumental and vocal tuition at KS2.  LMS strives to ensure inclusivity and to offer high quality musical experiences to all children in the borough. LMS was awarded an 'Honourable Mention' in the 2006 National Music Council Awards for music services.

Music Centres:
The Lambeth Music Service has been running the Lambeth Junior Centre for Young Musicians at Bonneville Primary School since 2001.  During this time over 500 children have taken part in Instrumental lessons and ensembles at the Centre. Some pupils have gone on to the London Centre for Young Musicians at Morley College.

In September 2006, LMS made some exciting changes to the Saturday centre, which is now called the Clapham Music Centre. Since then we have opened two new centres, the Myatts Field Music Centre and the Streatham Music Centre

The Music Centres offer a wide range of instrumental and vocal ensembles and lessons for pupils to make music together with friends, improve their skills, give public performances and work with other musicians. 

Students have the opportunity to work alongside professional musicians, to take part in special projects and to participate in termly public performances.
The new centres will be open to all children at Lambeth state schools and will have a range of ensembles specifically catering for children with previous musical experience, as well as ensembles open to beginners.
