EARLY YEARS

Three staged programs to provide a secure base of musical skills, leading on to playing instruments in an ensemble setting.

 

 

  • Infants and Carers  Fun for all with singing, musical games and classroom instruments. 3 years and under with carers
  • Sing!  includes singing, musicianship and  playing classroom instruments for Reception to Year 1, four and five year olds.
  • Play!  introduces recorder, djembe drumming and tuned percussion for Year 1 and 2.  Five and six year olds.

Entry level  - for beginner instrumentalists
For children in Year 2 or 3, age 6 or 7, and above. 

For children who are starting instrumental lessons or who have started but do not yet meet the criteria to go on into Continuing Instrumental Provision.

  • Hour long lesson.
  • Instrumental tuition on chosen instrument
  • Kodaly musicianship, Singing and rhythm workshops included.
  • Children can change instrument after a term
  • Opportunities to perform at termly presentations
  • Music medals and exams.

Continuing Instrumental/vocal provision
small group lessons and ensembles for all ages and instruments

SMALL GROUP LESSONS
For instrumentalists who fulfill the criteria to leave entry level.  See attached form.  All ages. We do recommend that children having an instrumental lesson also play in an ensemble which may be at CMC or elsewhere.

Small group lessons are a cost effective option for continuing to receive a high standard of instrumental tuition.  Individual lessons will be provided on request but at a higher fee.

ENSEMBLES Children joining ensembles need to meet the entry criteria for their instrument and and be having an instrumental lesson at CMC or elsewhere.

The String Orchestra, Wind Band,  Recorder Ensemble and  small ensembles (rock, pop, jazz, reggae and ska bands) will give children the opportunity to make music together with friends, improve their skills, perform and work with other musicians.

 OTHER ACTIVITIES

Capoeira – for children from 7-18  with or without experience who have an interest in music, dance and acrobatics

Capoeira is a unique Brazilian art form that was developed by African slaves and incorporates dance, acrobatics, self defense, philosophy, instrumental playing and singing.

  • Improve your physical fitness, flexibility, strength and co-ordination
  • Improve your spatial awareness and self-defense
  • Develop general musicianship skills, instrumental playing and singing
  • Improve your confidence
  • Learn about the history of Capoeira and its role today
  • Learn the accompanying songs and music
  • Take part in performances

Djembe Drumming– for children from 7-18 with an interest in  drumming, with or without experience

The drum originates from the Malinke peoples of West Africa.  Djembe drumming has become popular world wide and djembe drummers can be found in many world music/jazz fusion groups as well as in more traditional ensembles.

  • Learn and play some traditional West African rhythms in 2 or 3 parts
  • Be involved with composing and arranging 2/3 part rhythms.
  • Take part in performances
  • Develop musicianship and ensemble skills
  • Improve your confidence

Little Big Voices – for children from 8-14 with a passion for singing with or without experience

An exciting choir that develops children’s vocal technique and unlike most choirs includes dance. LBV brings children together in a fun and supportive environment.

  • Study a range of contemporary repertoire from many styles and genres
  • Study vocal technique and some notation
  • Incorporates contemporary dance styles and microphone technique
  • Take part in performances
  • Develop musicianship and ensemble skills
  • Improve your confidence

Inclusion 
For children of all ages who have special needs including learning difficulties, social and behavioral issues, autistic spectrum

  • Small group sessions in a safe and friendly environment.
  • Opportunities to sing and  play instruments with other children
  • Children’s programs are individually planned and delivered by a specialist.
  • Where appropriate children are given ongoing support in accessing other activities at the centre.

Sound Engineering
(10 - 18 Years)
Learn about sequencing, recording, sampling, microphones and everything else you need to know on your road to becoming a music producer.

  • Open to anyone from the age of 10. No prior experience necessary. 
  • Learn basic recording and microphone techniques.
  • Analyse your favourite songs
  • Develop musicianship and IT skills
  • Compose and record a track of your own and produce a CD
  • Bring a pen and note book.
  • Get to know Reason, Cubase SX and other music production programs.

Gospel Choir
Explore a variety of music from modern gospel, traditional spirituals, to pop and soul, in a relaxed and encouraging environment.

  • Improve your vocal technique, harmony singing and learn how to move with the music.
  • Songs will be taught a cappella with use of backing tracks
  • Develop listening skills, with opportunities for solo singing. Bring water to each session and wear loose comfortable clothing for physical warm ups.
