Musitrax Jazz
• All children in year 7 take part
• The project is designed to accommodate the various skill levels pupils have when entering secondary school
• The first MX Jazz project was started in January 2006 at Lilian Baylis Technology School, with the support of Korg UK, the CfBT Action Zone and the Lambeth Education Business Partnership
• MX Jazz provides pupils with a ‘second chance’ at engaging with music, helping provide all of them with a basic understanding and level of musical skill and a basic grasp of notation.
• Each class forms a jazz band with brass instruments, saxophones and a rhythm section
• Material based on blues, jazz and contemporary genres for beginners is being developed
• Improvisation and performance are integral parts of the programme
• The curriculum follows the National Curriculum guidelines for the beginning of KS3
• Software for the Interactive Whiteboard and personalised learning at school and at home is being developed
• Vocal work, dance, performance, and using music technology form an integral part of the programme
• MX Jazz leads naturally on to new ways of teaching class music which are being developed for KS3, including the exciting new Musical Futures projects
• From September 2006, over 250 year seven pupils in Lambeth will be engaging with instrumental music through MX Jazz projects at Lambeth secondary schools |
