Lambeth Schools Music Festival 2010
What an amazing extravaganza of music, excitement and energy! 2500 children and young people singing and playing their hearts out in eight performances over four days in such world-famous venues as Queen Elizabeth Hall, Clore Ballroom and Royal Festival Hall this week. Such a dazzling array of talent, commitment and hard work from so many of Lambeth’s young musicians and their teachers! Lambeth is truly a musical borough where it’s cool to sing and make music together.

The collaboration between Lambeth schools, Lambeth Music Service and Southbank Centre means that this talent can be showcased professionally, ensuring an event with so many highlights which will remain in our memories.

The impact of the annual festival (the 9th so far) has been to raise the quality and quantity of singing and playing in Lambeth - more schools are involved, more adventurous music is programmed, and the quality of performance just keeps on getting better and better, as schools, the Music Service and Southbank Centre share their expertise with each other, become inspired to try new things and raise their aspirations.

My heartfelt thanks to all the participants, supporters and organisers for giving us such an amazing week of treasured memories!

Brendon Le Page
Head of Lambeth Music Service
