Bridging the gap between young creatives and the music industry
Spotlight is a 12-week music industry and artist-development programme funded by Youth Music. It is aimed at aspiring creatives (aged 18-24) from South London who are not in education, employment or training.

In Harmony Lambeth provides FREE after-school ensembles for players of string, wind and brass instruments (primary and secondary school age). Groups/ensembles for both beginners (minimum one term of learning) and more experienced players (up to Grade 8 +)

Workshops are for young people aged 8-18 years old, no previous experience required except in brass/woodwind where you need to know the notes and have an instrument to use. London Philharmonic Orchestra - LPO Junior Artists 2024/25
ages 15-19 and Overture ages 11-14
LPO Junior Artists is a free, year-long programme offering opportunities, advice and professional insight to eight exceptional orchestral players aged 15-19 and from backgrounds under-represented in professional UK orchestras.
Junior Artists become part of the LPO family for a year, getting to know our musicians, staff and artists and benefiting from one-to-one instrumental lessons, insight sessions, professional skills building workshops, and more.
We also run free Overture days several times a year, for younger musicians aged 11-14 (those from under-represented backgrounds are prioritised) to play together as an orchestra with Junior Artists and LPO musicians.

The Trinity Laban Next Wave Big Band Mondays 17:30 - 19:00, starting 30 September 2024 Trinity Laban, Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich, SE10 9JF. Ages 11-17 FREE.
Are you aged 11-17? Do you play trumpet, trombone, saxophone, guitar, piano, bass/double bass or drums? Want to join London’s newest big band, and play alongside jazz students from Trinity Laban?
There’s a brand-new ensemble arriving for young people in school years 7-12. The Trinity Laban Next Wave Big Band is an exciting new jazz project for young musicians, that will tackle some of the most popular big band repertoire of the twentieth century. Rehearsing weekly at Trinity Laban’s iconic music faculty in Greenwich, you will learn the music together predominantly ‘by ear’, alongside reading charts. We’re after musicians ready to take on the #PlayItByEar challenge.
To be involved you need to be technically proficient on your instrument, producing a good sound and feel across the instrument, and willing to commit to weekly rehearsals. Most of all, you should have a passion for improvising, and for playing and developing together with like-minded musicians of your generation, and a curiosity to explore the big band heritage!

Trinity Laban - Animate Artists X TL Youth Dance Company
Starting 17 November 2024
Animate Artists is seeking young musicians for its next exciting creative project! With sessions across November to February - on occasional Sundays and Tuesday evenings – you will work as part of a group to devise a brand-new piece of music for dance, collaborating with the Trinity Laban Youth Dance Company. This daring new work will be performed live at the state-of-the-art Laban Theatre as part of the high-profile U.Dance 2025: London Regional Platform.
Who is this project for?
- Anyone who plays any instrument, aged 13-18
- Priority will be given to more experienced musicians who are grade 4 standard upwards (or equivalent)
- Young musicians from south east London and/or who have taken part in past Animate projects are particularly encouraged to take part!

Key Stage 1 – Key Stage 4
We work with children, young people and teachers from Key Stage 1 to A Level, bringing musical learning to life through live concerts and workshops, as well as CPD opportunities and resources for teachers to develop their creative practice. Our popular BrightSparks concerts for schools take place throughout the year at the Royal Festival Hall, and there are many free learning resources for schools on our website.
We work in partnership with the Music Education Hubs of Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Royal Greenwich, who recommend our participant schools and support the ongoing development of the projects. We are proud to work with these partner Hubs and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance as part of the South Riverside Music Partnership.
