The work of Lambeth Sounds is guided by our Strategic Board. Board members have a breadth of skills and experience relating to music education and beyond, and we are excited to introduce them to you below:
Ellara Wakely (Chair)
As a Music Education specialist, Ellara Wakely has worked at the BBC for fourteen years leading Music Education for the BBC Proms, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra and Singers. Her work includes running the award-winning BBC Ten Pieces programme; used by over 5 million people and over 50% of UK primary schools, and representing the BBC as an education partner in the East Bank cultural partnership in Stratford. Previous to working at the BBC Ellara worked in international orchestral touring and taught music. Ellara grew up in London, studying music through her local Music service and the Centre for Young Musicians before going on to study Music and History at University |
Roz De Vile
Roz graduated in music from King’s College London, specialising in composition. She started her career in the artist management sector, supporting the work of musical artists and composers internationally. A move into music education saw her lead and fundraise for the development of Gallions Primary School’s innovative music programme. Roz joined Music Masters as Learning Director in 2015 and became Chief Executive Officer in September 2020 Roz teaches piano and is a Trustee of the Manorfield Charitable Foundation in Tower Hamlets. She is training as an Executive level coach and holds a Certificate in Fundraising from the Institute of Fundraising. |
Tamzyn French
Tamzyn French has worked with the Kinetika Bloco for 16 of its 20-years existence. She began as Bloco Administrator when the Bloco was just a project within carnival organisation Kinetika Art Links International. As the Bloco grew in size and success she took on setting it up as an independent charity in 2010 and is now the CEO. She leads a creative and administrative team of 25, many of whom have grown up in the Bloco as members and are now employed to help run the organisation. She is passionate about building a family environment where all young people can access exciting, relevant, fun and high-quality musical experiences and become leaders in their own lives, within the Bloco and beyond to the Arts sector. |
Jenetta Hurst
Jenetta is Head of Music at Jo Richardson Community School. Roles over the past 18 years include ensemble director, sectional leader and peripatetic woodwind teacher for Birmingham Music Service, conductor of an Inner-City Youth Orchestra in collaboration with the CBSO / APAA, senior and middle leader (LA / Independent / MAT). |
Kim Perkins
Kim is a SEN/D music specialist and has spent over ten years working as a music leader in formal and informal education. She is the director of Lambeth Sounds’ hub partner Music Making SENse, an organisation that delivers group music-making programmes for SEN schools across South London, and SEN coordinator and tutor for Lambeth Music Service. Kim is passionate about enabling equity in music education, in particular for young people with additional needs, and furthering the visibility of disabled young people within our community through music. |
Maria Athini
A creative expert in Communications working for Lambeth Council. Journalist, author, lyricist. Recent works include libretti for opera Eleni (2016) and musicals Liberaj (2019) and Scrooge (2023). Maria studies literature and film in English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. Awarded by UNESCO Piraeus and Islands for her contribution to Greek culture. |
Laura Woodham
Laura has worked in Lambeth Primary Schools for over 20yrs. For many years she has held the role of Deputy Headteacher and Director of Music at the Gipsy Hill Federation. She is a former recipient of the Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year award and is a Specialist Leader of Education for Music in Lambeth. She studied oboe and singing at Trinity College of Music and as an Associate Colourstrings Tutor is an advocate of using Kodaly principles in early music education. Laura joined the board because she is keen to ensure every child in Lambeth has access to a high-quality music education. |
Becky Haworth
Becky is Head of Music and Performing Arts at The Elms Academy and Music Lead for the United Teacher Training Programme. Over the last 16 years she has run Music departments across a number of schools in London, Cambridge and The Middle East, and held senior leadership roles responsible for whole school academics and outcomes. Becky is a flautist, pianist, singer and composer and is passionate about enriching the lives of young people through music. She is currently working towards a Fellowship in Cultural Education focusing on the power of music to improve wellbeing and mental health. |
Dominique Johnston-Franklin
Dominique is currently Group manager of Education Finance in Lambeth and has over 15 years government finance experience in Education, Children and Adult services. She has 5 years’ experience of supporting governing bodies and finance committees and in addition as treasurer to schools committees. She is passionate about supporting Music and the Arts within schools and ensuring its sustainability to enable all young people to access music services in schools and out of school settings. |
